Lecture Theatre Interior Design for University in Southern Poland

We are pleased to present another project executed by our Cracow Branch, which involved the fitting out of the lecture theatre of one of the universities in southern Poland with seats. The assignment was awarded to us by the General Contractor that renovated several rooms at the university. We received an official request for quotation. Our proposal was accepted and we could get begin to work.

The interior design of the lecture theatre is the type of project we executed several times in the past, thus the quote preparation was not a problem for us – it was delivered quickly and it complied with provided specification. It turned out that the investor counted on cost-effective solution, which would not exceed a certain cost level. Therefore, we had to revise our initial assumptions thoroughly and implement slight modifications but still comply with the original project concept. A major change included the use of upholstery with slightly different composition and parameters. We managed, however, to find a solution that would reconcile cost effectiveness with retention of high quality. It should be noted that most parameters were retained in 100% – the upholstery was of colour that complied with the guidelines, it complied with abrasion and flame retardant requirements. Furthermore, the upholstery contained foam poured. It is important, because this technological solution shows much higher resistance than foam cut. Consequently, the material is more compact and resistant to deformations (in this case it is more resistant to kneading), it is less prone to creasing and generally it is more resistant.

Another property of the chairs worth noting was their simple operational system. The seats unfold using relatively small pressure and most importantly they do not have a mechanism of automatic return to their original position – it has to be done manually. Additionally, each seat was equipped with blinded gaps where note-taking tablets were hidden. The note-taking tablet is taken out from a special pocket, a bit like a cassette from a compartment and it is mounted at a small angle. A small inclination angle, and the finishing of the tablet with a strip gives the user peace of mind, since they are not afraid that the small personal belongings (such as ballpoint pens) would fall onto the floor. The system does not have any additional elements (e.g. a hollow for a cup), however, because of its simplicity it is characterized by a lower failure rate and occupies small area. An important component of the lecture theatre interior design was also the fact of leaving separate blinds in front of first rows so that the students seating there also would have access to note-taking tablets.

The lecture theatre was arranged quickly and efficiently. In accordance with the detailed plan we mounted the total of 81 seats, for which we used upholstery manufactured in Spain, delivered to us by a distributor having experience related to equipping lecture theatres all over Europe. The outcome of our efforts can be seen in the Photo Gallery.
